How to care for dry, damaged hair.

Five things we tell clients with stressed lengths.

        Wash gently

Choose a mild repair shampoo with keratin or a bond complex and wash the scalp, not the lengths. Lukewarm water is kinder to the hair surface than hot water.

A mask once or twice a week

Rich masks with keratin, collagen, argan oil or shea butter give the lengths what the shampoo cannot. Leave them on for five to ten minutes.

        Bond care after bleaching

Bleaching and colour weaken the inner bonds of the hair. Bond-repair care such as Plex or Perfect Bonding is made for exactly this hair.

        Seal the ends

A few drops of oil or serum in the ends after washing keep them soft and help against split, frayed ends.

        Protect before heat

Use a heat protection spray before the blow-dryer or straightener. Damaged hair takes heat badly.

        Questions about dry, damaged hair.

        What helps dry, damaged hair?

A routine from one line: a mild repair shampoo, a mask once or twice a week and a few drops of oil in the ends. Add heat protection if you style with heat.

        What is a bond-repair treatment?

Bleaching and colouring break bonds inside the hair. Bond-repair care is made for this hair and leaves it feeling stronger and smoother after a few washes.

Keratin or collagen, which is better?

Keratin smooths the hair surface, collagen gives the hair fibre a supple feel. Many repair lines combine both.

How often should I use a hair mask?

Once or twice a week instead of your conditioner. Very damaged or bleached hair can take a mask after every second wash.

        Can damaged hair be repaired?

The ends cannot grow back together, but good care makes damaged lengths feel smoother, softer and easier to comb. Split ends only go with a cut.
